prepmymeal follows the same basic idea as FITTASTE, but relies on flash-frozen meals and a particularly broad range that can be filtered by nutritional goal. The clear macro declaration is a real advantage for anyone who tracks – and a good starting point for my CGM tests.

What is relevant for metabolism?

  • Goal-oriented selection: Being able to specifically choose low-carb or protein-focused meals is the most interesting point from a blood-sugar perspective. Carbohydrate quantity remains the main driver of the glucose response established – whoever can control it, controls the peak.
  • Protein and satiety: A higher protein content supports satiety and muscle preservation, especially in a weight-loss phase, and dampens the glucose response established. That fits my goal of reducing weight without losing muscle.
  • Freezing and resistant starch: With starchy sides, cooling/reheating can change the proportion of resistant starch and theoretically slightly soften the glucose response – the effect is real, but its magnitude for a single meal is hard to predict plausible. This is exactly the kind of thing my CGM can make visible.
  • “No added sugar” ≠ “low carb”: Here too: rice, pasta and potatoes deliver carbohydrates regardless of the sugar label. What matters is the declared total amount per portion.

Critical points I keep in mind

  • Marketing vs. macros: “Fitness meal” is not a protected term. I go by the declared nutritional values and the real curve, not by the category label.
  • Price and shipping: Considerably more expensive per portion than home cooking; shipping costs come on top. The added value must lie in everyday life (time, consistency, blood-sugar control).
  • Portion and reaching for more: As with any ready meal, I assess whether the portion really fills me up.

My test plan (tests pending)

  1. 1. Low carb vs. classic: A deliberately low-carb meal against a side-heavy one – peak height and course over 3 hours in direct comparison.
  2. 2. Declaration vs. reality: Does my measured glucose response match the stated carbohydrates?
  3. 3. Freezing effect: Where sensibly measurable – does a starchy meal react differently than freshly prepared comparison food?
  4. 4. Training vs. rest day: The same meal with and without prior moderate endurance training.

All results are labelled as single-case observation (n=1); conspicuous measurements I repeat on another day.
