Test Report: More Protein Iced Coffee „Brownie Marshmallow“

My CGM self-test of the protein-rich iced coffee: creamy, only 3 g carbohydrates per portion – and an honest look at blood sugar, pork gelatine and the training influence.

What this is about

I tested the More Protein Iced Coffee in the “Brownie Marshmallow” flavour – as a protein iced coffee, prepared with unsweetened almond drink and an automatic milk frother. It is interesting for my path for two reasons: a very high protein content with very low carbohydrates per portion, and the question of how it affects my blood sugar when I drink it fasted in the morning.

Important upfront: I drank the shake that morning fasted (nothing eaten for over three hours) and combined with training. That is decisive for the interpretation – more on that below.

The hard facts (official manufacturer values)

For the nutritional values I use the official figures from the label, not my estimate.

Sweetening: Sucralose and steviol glycosides (stevia), no table sugar as the main sweetener. According to the manufacturer, up to 95 % less sugar than classic instant iced coffee.

Caffeine: approx. 27 mg per 100 ml of prepared drink (real instant coffee in the powder).

Important note on composition: pork gelatine

The marshmallow pieces contain gelatine from pork. This is stated on the label (English ingredient list: “Gelatine (Pork)”) and is also declared by More itself. For me personally this is not a deal-breaker, but it is relevant information that gets lost in the marketing: the product is therefore not vegetarian and not halal/kosher. Anyone who avoids pork products for religious, ethical or dietary reasons should know this. I deliberately record it here, because nobody expects exactly this kind of detail in a “protein iced coffee”.

Preparation and sensory impression

I prepared one scoop (25 g) with unsweetened almond drink in the automatic frother, two runs. This makes the foam consistency very nice – creamy, even, without lumps.

My taste impression:

  • Taste: full-bodied, chocolatey like a mild drinking chocolate, no intrusive coffee. No unpleasant sweetness on the finish, no chemical spikes – pleasantly rounded for a sweetened protein powder.
  • Marshmallow pieces: pleasantly crunchy at first. Important: the longer you mix, or the longer the shake stands, the more the pieces dissolve. If you want the crunch, drink it promptly.
  • Consistency: very good, creamy, pleasant colour.
  • Tolerability: did not sit heavy in my stomach, no rumbling, good digestion. That matters to me because I want to use the product around training and everyday life.

Timeline, documented via CGM and photo timestamps:

  • 07:55: 123 mg/dL, steady trend – note set in Libre right after drinking (3 g carbs, “More Proteine – ICED COFFEE – Brownie Marshmallow”).
  • 08:07: 124 mg/dL, steady trend.

Over the observed period my glucose value stayed practically flat (123 → 124 mg/dL), continuously in the target range. No notable peak after the shake was visible.

My classification – honest and cautious

Here I deliberately separate what is provable from what is not:

  • That the carbohydrate quantity of a meal is the most important driver of the blood sugar rise is well documented . With only 3 g carbohydrates per portion, a flat course is physiologically exactly what you would expect – regardless of the sweetener.
  • The high protein content (~16 g) additionally dampens a glucose response and provides satiety .
  • However: I combined the shake with training. Moderate exercise lowers or stabilises my glucose level – I see this regularly in my documentation. So I cannot attribute the flat course to the product alone. The clean statement is: the flat course is well compatible with a low-carb shake, but the training effect overlays the pure product effect. This is a single-case observation (n=1), not proof .

To isolate the pure shake effect, I would have to drink it on another day fasted without training and record the curve again. I am noting this for a follow-up test.

Training feeling

By subjective impression, training performance on the bike and in the gym was good; the shake did not sit heavy and was easy to “process”. This is an honest personal impression – a performance-enhancing effect cannot be derived from it . For a pure protein iced coffee with ~16 g protein, a noticeable performance effect is not to be expected physiologically either; the value lies more in satiety, protein supply and enjoyment without a relevant sugar load.

My conclusion

For me a product that feels high-quality and tastes very good, and that integrates well into my everyday life: creamy, full-bodied, well tolerated, and with only 3 g carbohydrates per portion uncomplicated from a blood-sugar perspective. My flat CGM course fits a low-carb shake – but because of the combined training it is not an isolated product measurement.

Two points I state clearly: the pork gelatine in the marshmallow pieces (not vegetarian/halal/kosher) and the fact that “protein-rich and low-sugar” says nothing about a therapeutic effect. The shake is an enjoyment and protein building block – not a remedy for my metabolic disease.

Open follow-up test: shake fasted without training, to isolate the pure glucose response.
