What I make of this formulation
Bacterial cultures and glucose metabolism
The connection between the gut microbiome and metabolic health is one of the most exciting fields in current research. Observational studies show consistent microbiome differences between people with and without type 2 diabetes .
The decisive point: association is not causation. Whether targeted probiotic administration improves insulin sensitivity is considerably less well documented. Meta-analyses on probiotics in type 2 diabetes find small reductions in fasting glucose and HbA1c, with high heterogeneity between strains and studies .
Strain specificity: effects are not transferable to “probiotics” in general but apply to specific strains at specific doses. A product with different strains may act differently – or not at all.
Safety aspects
Bloating is possible in the first few days. With a severely weakened immune system, intake should be discussed medically.
My plan for the self-test
Long-term observation over 8 weeks: do my mean fasting values and the variability change? Important: microbiome effects need time, short observations say little.
All of my own measurements are labelled as a single-case observation (n=1) and cannot be transferred to other people.
