What matters for blood sugar
Omega-3 and insulin sensitivity
For cardiovascular endpoints and triglycerides there are solid data; for EPA and DHA there are authorised claims for normal heart function .
For glucose metabolism the picture is different: meta-analyses on omega-3 and insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes predominantly show no relevant effects on HbA1c or fasting glucose . The benefit here clearly lies in the cardiovascular area, not in blood sugar.
Why algae oil instead of fish oil
Algae oil is the original source of DHA – fish take it up via the food chain. For people who avoid fish, algae oil is the sensible alternative, with comparable bioavailability and without the heavy-metal issue.
Safety notes
At higher doses, omega-3 can affect blood clotting. Clarify medically before operations and with anticoagulants.
My test approach
No CGM test sensible. A blood lipid profile before/after would be relevant – but that belongs in medical hands.
All of my own measurements are labelled as a single-case observation (n=1) and cannot be transferred to other people.
