The technical look at the ingredients

Magnesium and insulin sensitivity

The connection is well documented: people with type 2 diabetes more often have a low magnesium status, and observational studies show a link between higher magnesium intake and lower diabetes risk .

Supplementation is more differentiated: meta-analyses find improvements in insulin sensitivity and fasting glucose mainly in people with a proven magnesium deficiency or insulin resistance . In well-supplied people, an additional effect is not documented .

On the compound form

The complex combines citrate, oxide, malate and bisglycinate. This makes sense: oxide has a high elemental content but poorer bioavailability, citrate and bisglycinate are better available and gentler on the stomach. Bisglycinate is considered particularly well tolerated.

Practical note: magnesium is one of the few micronutrients where a deficiency realistically occurs in Germany – especially with a lot of sport and sweating. That makes this preparation more relevant to me than most others.

Safety and tolerability

Doses that are too high have a laxative effect. With impaired kidney function, magnesium may only be supplemented after medical consultation.

Test considerations

No direct CGM test is sensible – magnesium effects are not visible in the glucose curve in the short term. Instead: laboratory value before/after and subjective recovery after training.

All of my own measurements are labelled as a single-case observation (n=1) and cannot be transferred to other people.
